Background

Biography

The will of John Barnes[1] calls Anne Samson his "Cozen". The wife of Henry Samson was Anne Plummer[2] How Mary and Anne were related (assuming the relationship is through this marriage) is still unknown. If Mary and Anne were sisters, then they would share the same mtDNA. On the other hand, if they were related in any other way (cousins or aunt/niece then it is most likely they would not share the same mtDNA.

First Generation

Mary Plummer is said to have been baptized Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire 15 Aug 1614 (source and parentage unknown) and she died Plymouth Colony 2 Jun 1651. She married Plymouth 12 Sep 1633 [[Barnes (Y-DNA)#First Generation] John Barnes]][3] and they had five children (Plymouth): Mary (c1640), Jonathan (c1642), Hannah (c1644), John (c1646-1648) and Lydia (1648 dec. in father's will, presum. unm.)

Second Generation

Mary Barnes was born in Plymouth abt 1640. She married between 2 Dec 1658 - 25 Oct 1660 Robert Marshall. It is unknown whether they had any children or when/where they lived and died.

Hannah Barnes was born Plymouth abt 1644. She received bequests from her father on 24 Aug 1651 & 14 Oct 1651. Her further history is currently unknown.

mtDNA Results

Given the fact no surviving matrilineal descendants are known, there is no opportunity to discover Mary's mtDNA.
