Biography
First Generation
John Barnes was born in England about 1608, parentage and location unknown. He died Plymouth bet. the writing of his will (6 Mar 1667/8) and its probate (29 Oct 1671). He was first found in Plymouth Colony records in the 25 Mar 1633 tax list so it is assumed he arrived the prior year (1632). He married twice, first Plymouth 12 Sep 1633 Mary Plummer, then bef 1 Mar 1652/3 Joan _____ (no ch.) By his first wife he had five children (Plymouth): Mary (c1640), Jonathan (c1642), Hannah (c1644), John (c1646-1648) and Lydia (1648 unm.)
Second Generation
Jonathan Barnes was born Plymouth 3 Jun 1643 and died there 20 Aug 1714. He married Plymouth 4 Jan 1665/6 Elizabeth Hedge and they had eleven children (Plymouth): Mary (1667), John (1668/9), William (1669/70), Hannah (1672), Lydia (1674), Elizabeth (1677), Sarah (1680), Esther (1682), Jonathan (1684) and two more who died young.
Third Generation
(Lt.) John Barnes was born Plymouth 5 Mar 1668/9 and died there 15 May 1744. He married twice, first Plymouth 10 Jul 1693 Mary Bartlett then Plympton 1 Mar 1738 Ann Bonham (no ch.) By his first wife he had ten children (Plymouth): John (1694), Hannah (1695/6), William (1697-1714), Seth (1699), Mary (1701/2), Jonathan (1703), Thankful (1705), Elizabeth (1706/7), Nathaniel (1711) and Lydia (1713).
William Barnes was born Plymouth 14 Feb 1670 and died there 31 Mar 1751. He married Plymouth 20 Nov 1704 Alice Bradford and they had five children (Plymouth): William (1705/6-1730 likely unm.), Lemuel (1706/7), Mercy (1708), Benjamin (1711 d.y.) and Benjamin (1717).
Jonathan Barns (II) was born Plymouth 27 Aug 1684 and died there bef 27 Dec 1736. He married twice, first Plymouth 1708 Sarah Bradford then Plymouth aft 25 Aug 1722 Mercy ELLIS Doty/Doten[1] (no ch.) By his first wife he had four daughters (Plymouth): Sarah (1709), Rebecca (1711), Lydia (1714) and Hannah (1718).
Fourth Generation
John Barnes (II) was born Plymouth 26 Jun 1694 and died there 11 Dec 1645. He married Plymouth aft 28 Apr 1725 Dorcas Corbin and they had six children (Plymouth): John (1726-1744 unm.), Lemuel (1729 m Sarah LeBaron), Corbin (1732 m Mary Phinney but only 2 known daus.), Mary (1736), Hannah (1740) and Elkanah (1742 m Hannah Bartlett but unk. if any ch.)
Seth Barnes was born Plymouth 25 Aug 1699 and died there 21 Mar 1762. He married Plymouth 20 Apr 1722 Sarah Wooden and they had eleven children (Plymouth): Elizabeth (1722), Sara (1724), Seth (1726 m Elizabeth Rider but only 2 known daus.), James (1728 unk. if marr.), Mary (1730), William (1732 unk. if marr.), inf. dau. (1734-1734), Joseph (1736/7 m Hannah Rider), Benjamin (1736/7 unk. if marr.), Peter Wooden (1742 unk. if marr.) and Luce/Lucy (1745).
Jonathan Barnes was born Plymouth 16 Dec 1703 and died there 2 Oct 1748. He married Plymouth 8 Sep 1726 Phebe Finney and they had six children (Plymouth): Mary (1728-1729), Margaret (1732), Jonathan (1735 no ch.), Nathaniel (1740 unk. if marr.), Zaccheus (1743 m Hanah Curtis) and John (1745-1748).
Nathaniel Barnes was born Plymouth 13 May 1711 and died Granville Twp., Nova Scotia 6 Aug 1785. He married Hallowell, ME 1730 Anna Merriconeague and they had seven children: Henry (1733 unk. if marr.), Hannah (1742), Elizabeth (1743), Sarah (1746), Nathaniel (1749 unk. if marr.), Mary Ann (1751) and Spencer (1755 m Jane Troop).
Lemuel Barnes was born Plymouth 16 Feb 1706/7 and died there in 1751. He married Plymouth 21 May 1735 his cousin, Lydia Barnes[2] and they had eight children (Plymouth): Hannah (1735), Lydia (1737), William (c1740 unk. if marr.), Lemuel (c1742 d.y.), Ann (1744), Lemuel (c1746 unk. if marr.), John (1748 m Margaret Rider) and Isaac (1750-1750).
Benjamin Barnes was born Plymouth 20 Dec 1717 and died there 12 Apr 1760. He married Plymouth 14 Jan 1742 Experience Rider and they had eight children (Plymouth): Alice (1743), Mercy (1744/5), Bradford (1747 m Sarah Howard), Josiah (1751/2 m _____), Isaac (1754 m Lucy Harlow), Experience (dau 1756) and Sarah (1760).

DNA results
Previous Y-DNA testing
The Barnes surname DNA Project does not currently have anyone claiming John Barnes of Plymouth as their Most Distant Known Patrilineal Ancestor (MDKPA). It is currently unknown if there are even any surviving patrilineal descendants of John.
NGS/WGS testing
